The UK branch has recently secured significant contracts, including a framework agreement with National Grid for substation projects ranging from £5m to £50m and a framework with SSEN for projects up to £100m. Operating out of modern offices in central Birmingham with a further office in Motherwell Scotland, the client is poised for rapid growth and success in the UK, with a dedicated team of experts in the field of Transmission & Distribution.

Role Purpose:

As a Planner for our Power Transmission and Distribution projects, you will play a crucial role in developing and managing project schedules. This includes overseeing wider project controls responsibilities such as budget and risk management. The Planner role demands expertise in high voltage substation projects within the UK, encompassing a deep understanding of the design process and construction sequence.

Responsibilities:

Technical Responsibilities:

In the capacity of a Planner, your technical responsibilities encompass the utilisation of project control methodologies and systems such as Primavera P6, MSP, and others. As a Planner, you will actively contribute to the establishment of systems and the implementation of planning controls. The duties associated with the role of a Planner include the management of schedules and earned value, the creation of tender and design schedules for substation projects based on drawings and client information, as well as the analysis and evaluation of schedule management using critical path scheduling techniques. In your role as a Planner, you will conduct impact analyses of delays and change events, implementing agreed Compensation Events, and actively support the risk management process. Ensuring compliance with industry regulations, standards, and protocols will be a key aspect of your responsibilities as a Planner. Furthermore, in your role as a Planner, you will develop a comprehensive understanding of client requirements and effectively articulate solutions. Adherence to CDM regulations within a "high compliance" industry is also essential for a Planner.

Functional Responsibilities:

  • Contribute to relevant professional bodies and industry groups.
  • Interact with clients and colleagues to achieve project objectives.
  • Manage multiple projects and conflicting deadlines.
  • Work autonomously or as part of a project team.
  • Identify new skills and competencies required to meet business needs.
  • Ensure compliance with Health & Safety and Environmental (SHE) Policies and Processes.

Qualifications and Authorisations:

  • Full UK driving license.
  • CSCS card.
  • Primavera P6 qualification or relevant experience.

Desirable:

  • Relevant degree-level qualification.

Skills, Experience, and Personal Qualities:

  • Minimum 5 years' experience in the HV sector.
  • Minimum 7 years' experience as a Planner.
  • Experience in creating schedules for National Grid in accordance with NGET TP 193.
  • Ability to thrive in pressure situations.
  • Excellent organisational, communication, and time management skills.
  • Able to work on own initiative.
  • Computer literate.
  • Commercial awareness and understanding of the impact of site-based activities on project financial performance.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills to build a culture of trust with the project team.

Travel:

  • Ability to travel nationally is required (approximately 40-50% of working time per year).

Training:

  • Ongoing training to maintain and enhance job-related skills.
