One of our local authority clients are currently recruiting for Business Support Manager. This is a temporary contract for 3 months with possible further extension based on budget and performance.

Main Purpose of Post/Job Summary

The successful post holder will manage the Business Support team ensuring delivery of value for money services in accordance with the Council’s policies and statutory legislation in line with the key principals of best value. They will also manage the commercial function within Operations and associated accounts staff.

In this role, they will support in the delivery of commercial objectives as set out in the Council’s Better at Business corporate agenda and Operations’ Business Plan as well as support the Operations Strategy and Policy Manager in developing and maintaining a proactive entrepreneurial approach to commercial opportunities within Operations.

The Business Support Manager will also be expected to support the Operations Strategy and Policy Manager in developing a commercial culture within Operations and be responsible for the management and supervision of employees including performance management, team building, employee development, sickness absence management and discipline.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Manage the day-to-day operation of the Business Support team.
  • Develop staff ensuring that staff levels reflect the demands of the service and flexible/generic working arrangements.
  • Provide administrative support to all Operations’ Service Unit Managers.
  • Promote operational services to existing and new customers; liaise with managers and other operational staff to ensure effective and seamless service delivery.
  • Establish and maintain appropriate monitoring systems and provide accurate management information including co-ordination and collation of all performance data within Operations for updating Pentana on a monthly and quarterly basis.
  • Prepare reports and statistical information as required by SMT including co-ordination and analysis of customer surveys.
  • Manage payments for goods or services received, having regard to the Council’s standing orders and financial regulations. Manage Recycling Credit Claims ensuring that claims are submitted accurately and within time.
  • Lead on the Customer Service Excellence Award for Operations.
  • Act as the Health and Safety Liaison Officer for Operations.
