We are working with a market-leading Main contractor based in Oxfordshire who is looking for their next key hire within their commercial team. Would you be interested in joining a highly established business that provides full training programs while offering clear progression plans? 

This role will typically have a range of responsibilities, Here are some main responsibilities:

  1. Cost Estimation and Budgeting: Prepare accurate cost estimates for construction projects based on materials, labour, and other relevant factors. Assist in developing project budgets and cost plans.
  2. Tendering and Procurement: Assist in the tendering process by preparing tender documents, analysing bids, and recommending suitable contractors and suppliers. Participate in negotiations and contract awards.
  3. Measurement and Valuation: Measure and quantify materials and labour required for construction projects. Prepare interim valuations, progress reports, and final accounts. Ensure that payments to contractors are fair and in accordance with contract terms.
  4. Variation and Change Management: Assess and manage variations to the scope of work, including changes in design or specifications. Evaluate the impact of variations on cost and schedule, and negotiate adjustments with stakeholders.
  5. Cost Control and Monitoring: Monitor project costs against budgets and forecasts. Identify cost overruns or potential savings and propose corrective actions. Keep accurate records of project expenditures and commitments.
  6. Risk Management: Identify and assess potential risks that may affect project costs or schedules. Develop strategies to mitigate risks and minimize their impact on the project.
  7. Contract Administration: Administer construction contracts, including interpreting contract terms, resolving disputes, and issuing contractual notices as necessary. Ensure compliance with contractual obligations by all parties involved.
  8. Collaboration and Communication: Work closely with project managers, architects, engineers, contractors, and other stakeholders to ensure effective coordination and communication throughout the project lifecycle.
  9. Value Engineering: Evaluate alternative construction methods, materials, and designs to optimize value and efficiency without compromising quality or performance.
  10. Quality Assurance and Compliance: Ensure that construction works meet quality standards, specifications, and regulatory requirements. Conduct regular inspections and audits to verify compliance with contractual and regulatory obligations.
  11. Documentation and Reporting: Maintain accurate project records, including contracts, drawings, specifications, and correspondence. Prepare regular progress reports, financial forecasts, and other documentation for internal and external stakeholders.
  12. Professional Development: Stay updated on industry trends, best practices, and regulatory changes related to quantity surveying and construction management. Pursue professional development opportunities such as training, certifications, and memberships in relevant organizations.
