Mechanical Design Engineer

12 Month FTC

Location: M4/M5 Corridor (Hybrid working)

Our client is a major designer, manufacturer, and global provider of multi-purpose cables and umbilical systems, serving diverse industries including offshore Oil and Gas, Diving, Seismic, Defence, and Special Applications. They are seeking a talented Mechanical Design Engineer to join their team on a 12-month fixed term contract (maternity cover) and contribute to their continued growth and success.

Unlocking Your Potential

In this role, you'll be part of a dynamic team responsible for interpreting customer requirements, designing CAD drawings, and developing technical bid documentation. You'll work closely with the Design Manager to ensure that designs comply with relevant industry standards.

Aims & Objectives

You'll have the opportunity to see your skills make a real difference, from initial design to production and market launch. Collaboration with customers and sales teams will lead to the engineering of custom solutions that meet clients' needs. Additionally, you'll contribute to their commitment to maintaining a safe and healthy workplace.

Qualifications and Experience

Required:

  • Practical knowledge of engineering and manufacturing, with a minimum of 5 years of experience.
  • Sound theoretical knowledge in areas such as basic electrical theory, basic hydraulics, materials, stress & strain, and fatigue.
  • Proficiency in 2D CAD software, preferably Autodesk products. Experience with 3D CAD (SolidWorks) is an advantage.
  • Proficiency in MS Office applications, particularly Word, Excel, and Outlook.

Preferred:

  • Exposure to quality systems such as ISO 9001 and experience in corrective action resolution.
  • Experience with cable/umbilical design and manufacture or with subsea oil and gas, diving, seismic, defence, or special applications.
  • Exposure to systems for control of engineering documentation (SolidWorks EPDM is an advantage).

Educational & Certification Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or mechanical engineering.
